WEST VIRGINIA IMPLEMENTATION FOCUS ON CAREER AND COLLEGE READINESS

Career Technical Education Update on WIN Learning in the State

Kingston, Tennessee (September 27, 2018)— The West Virginia Department of Education has made the WIN Learning Career Readiness System available to every Career Technical Education (CTE) student in the state.  Additionally, myStrategic Compass, an online web career planning and exploration resource from WIN Learning was created to provide a robust career exploration system for West Virginia students.

myStrategic Compass is available throughout the state to allow students to complete career exploration activities, identify target occupations, and build individual skills-based career development plans. The skills needed to perform the target occupations are developed via the WIN Career Readiness System solutions.

The West Virginia Department of Education has implemented the WIN Ready to Work Courseware, Soft Skills Courseware, and myStrategic Compass for academic skills, employability skills, and career exploration and planning. Building individual career strategies starts with looking at the student’s personal interests and values and ends with a detailed plan on how to navigate postsecondary options to get to a target career path. Detailed profiles of occupations, educational programs, and institutions provide an unparalleled source of information and guidance to West Virginia students.

WIN Learning is playing a key role in helping West Virginia high school students across the state complete high school and prepare for postsecondary education and workforce training that is critical to the state’s future economic success.

For the past five years, districts and state offices have issued the WIN Career Readiness System and myStrategic Compass to evaluate the academic and soft skill readiness of students and to align that data with key economic indicators. To date, more than 24,000 users have taken advantage of accessing the Ready to Work Courseware, logging over 27,000 hours in the curriculum.
