WIN Learning Career Readiness System Release Updates: April 2022

Version 4.4.0      Released 4/14/2022

Summary

Version 4.4.0 of WIN Career Readiness System code was released to production on Thursday, April 14, 2022. Highlights of the release include:

  • The ability for non-learners to change roles through User Admin 2.0
  • Updated password complexity requirements
  • Essential Soft Skills Courseware updates
  • Miscellaneous

Non-Learners' Ability to Change Roles

Administrators are now able to change the roles of teachers and other administrators who are below them in the organizational hierarchy.

First, look up the user in User Administration (2.0). Select the gear in the Row Actions column. Select “Change Role / Transfer User”.

A dialogue box will appear. Select if you want to only change the user’s role, only transfer the user, or change the user’s role and transfer at the same time.

Subsequent steps depend on the selection you make.

If you select “Change Role within same organization”, you will then select the new role.

If you select “Change Role and transfer to another organization”, you will first select the role and then select the new target organization.

Important to Note: The system views districts and schools as separate organizations, so to change a person’s role from a school administrator to a district administrator, for example, you are required to select “Change Role and transfer to another organization,” where you would then select the district as the “Target Organization.”

If you select “Transfer to another organization and keep existing roles”, you will select the new target organization.

After making your selections, you will click the green Change Role(s) and/or Transfer User(s) button to save your selections. You will be asked to confirm your changes.

Once you click Yes, you will return to the search results screen. If you have changed the user’s role or organization to be outside of the original search results, they will no longer appear in the list.

Once you change someone’s role, you can set specific role based permissions by finding and editing that user. For example, you may want to give a new teacher permission to enroll learners outside of their organization. You would search for the user under their new role (e.g. User Type: Teacher). Then select the gear, select Edit User, and grant permissions.

Updated Password Complexity Requirements

WIN Career Readiness System password complexity requirements have been updated throughout the application to align with current common security standards.

  • Must contain at least one number/digit

Essential Soft Skills Courseware Updates

Spanish Translations

ESSC content is now available in Spanish. Users will be prompted to choose their language when they begin each part of the course as shown in the screenshot below.

All text on screen, accessibility text for screen readers, and graphics have been translated. The videos have not been dubbed in Spanish, but the video transcripts have been translated into Spanish and made available to the learner on the video slides.

New Title Slide and Buttons

In order to bring consistency between ESSC and Digital Literacy and plan ahead for responsiveness and accessibility enhancements, we have designed a new title slide for ESSC lessons and utilized the same button structure as Digital Literacy Basics. The new title slide and the buttons instruction slide are shown here.

Improved Menu Navigation

We received an enhancement request to make the lessons more user-friendly for reviewing by not forcing forward progression for non-learners. In order to accomplish this, we made a significant change to the menus so that non-learners can now use the menu to jump to specific parts of the lessons and not have to click through and answer all questions again just to get to the part they want to review.

A user can now use the menu to change languages if they selected the wrong language. Note that if someone uses the menu to change languages, it will start them at the beginning of the lesson without their previous progress for that lesson being saved. A reminder of this rule is posted on each menu slide. Selecting “Return” on each menu will return the learner to the last slide they visited.

The enhanced menus also allow menu-navigation for people who use screen-readers.

The first screenshot below is an example of how the menu looks for non-learners. The second screenshot shows an example of how the menu looks for learners. Note that learners cannot skip ahead.

We plan to transition all courseware to this type of menu structure in the future to support accessibility requirements.

Objective-Based Feedback on Posttests

All ESSC posttests have been upgraded with objective-based feedback. This means that learners will see a list of objectives that they need to review on the posttest results slide based on the questions they answered incorrectly. The posttests are designed to be completed in one session. If a learner exits without completing, they will be able to resume, but the feedback will only be captured and displayed for questions answered in the current (not previous) session. This is noted clearly in the posttest instructions.
