Directions
Group Work
In this project, students work in groups to:
- determine the number of batches required to make 500 cupcakes with each recipe, and
- determine the total quantities for each ingredient and fill out a Table of Ingredients.
Materials Needed
Each student will need:
- one copy of the Sweet Plans worksheet.
Students access the recipes, common conversions, and unit abbreviations online.
When students finish their group work, check each student’s Table of Ingredients for accuracy. Help students to correct any errors.
Final Report
Individually, students will:
- convert ingredient quantities into the same measurement units to package the ingredients;
- order the appropriate quantity of each ingredient; and
- determine how many boxes are needed to transport the cupcakes.
Extension Activities
Provide an opportunity for the class to make cupcakes with each recipe.
Have the students convert the ingredients needed for all batches of each recipe into the same measurement units used to package the ingredients (worksheets provided).
