Run for your Flight — Activity

    Airport Data

The U.S. Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) tracks the on-time performance of domestic flights operated by large air carriers. A flight is considered delayed when it arrives 15 or more minutes later than the scheduled time. The nation’s largest airlines report on-time arrival rates of 75 to 80 percent. With approximately 60 million scheduled passengers per month, this means 12 to 15 million passengers experience delays every month.

In this activity, you will examine data to determine the probability of delayed departures or arrivals. When the probability drops below a certain threshold, you will arrange a stand-by pilot to cover the pilot’s next scheduled flight.
